Pedestrian injury remains the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 5 to 14. Children are impulsive and have difficulty judging speed, spatial relations, and distance Auditory and visual acuity, depth perception and proper scanning ability develop gradually and do not fully mature until at least age 10. All too often, parents over-estimate their child’s pedestrian skills and their ability to assess risk and danger.
The Stop Look Listen program is a very fun and interactive education program designed to teach elementary age children critical skills in pedestrian safety. Using props and play, children learn the four key “steps” to pedestrian safety – before crossing the street, we must Stop, Look and Listen for cars and other dangers and then Cross the street holding an adults hand.
This program pairs very well with our Skills On Wheels program.
