This week, the Denver Osteopathic Foundation had the pleasure of visiting Rocky Vista University to talk to the student club American College of Osteopathic Physicians (ACOP) about how to get involved with the Foundation. Phyllis, DOF’s Executive Director, talked to the medical students about volunteering for our Food, Fun, and Fitness program. Food, Fun, and Fitness, is a program where volunteers from Rocky Vista University put on their white coats and stethoscopes and teach elementary age students how to take care of their bodies. They spend time teaching good eating habits, dental hygiene, hand washing, different parts of the body, how exercising effects the heart, and about the five senses. Student doctors not only help these students learn how to prevent future health problems, but they also gain experience dealing with young children that will help them be more effective pediatricians in the future. Time was also spent discussing the Amazon Smile program. Amazon Smile is a very easy way to donate to the scholarship fund. All you have to do is choose your Smile charity on Osteopathic Foundation) and when you shop on Amazon, Amazon will donate a portion of your purchases to our foundation. This makes it possible to have more scholarships available for students, as physicians, students, and the community all donate.
